Community Land Trusts

Community Land trusts (CLTs) are community owned and directed form of housing. Unique to this model is removal of the right to sell the property on the private market. Once you elect to buy on a CLT you only pay for built form,—THE LAND IS HELD IN TRUST. And you agree to sell your built house to the next person at the same price , thereby guaranteeing affordability for the next generation.

Community Land Trusts provide a multi-stakeholder decision-making forum similar to adaptive co-management systems. It also removes land from the market, reinterpreting land as a community legacy rather than a speculative commodity.

You can check out a recently published manual written by a team of Australian researchers for how the model could be implemented here.
